Annual summer visitor: a nicely renovated house which opened in July 2017. The tea room is tastefully decorated and we knew of some of the tasty treats from Maynooth's Saturday market.

Why 2 Stars: On a rainy day six of us looked forward to a sandwich, warm drinks and treats for a late lunch. The room of six or so tables was full, but a group was just leaving. It took several minutes for the waitress to bus the table. We were seated and observed the waitress bring sandwiches to another table, apologizing for the wait, then took the order from another table, then she disappeared. It was 15 minutes before she returned with food for their table and still had not come to greet us or take our drink order. It was as if she could only concentrate on one order at a time. When she ignored us to serve a recent walk-in/take-out order, we'd had enough and got up. We did buy some treats to take home and the older woman at the till said something about only having opened three weeks ago and being so full today. Really? It's a simple menu and all the desserts are already done. That was the worst waitressing I've ever seen - it's like the girl had never eaten out, having no idea what to do. No one even commented on our getting up and I'd bet she didn't change the cutlery that my son had played with and dropped on the floor. Hopefully they hire someone with better serving skills because it would be nice to see them succeed.

Visited on Tuesday early afternoon. Was disappointed that when you ordered a $7 sandwich, you just got a very basic sandwich, with nothing other than a tiny piece of celery and a cherry tomato. Half the enjoyment of food is the presentation, which there was none. The blueberry pie was made with a canned filling, disappointing. For 2 people who each had a simple sandwich with a cup of tea, and a small piece of mediocre pie it was $30. Sorry, expensive for what we were served and we won't be back.

My rating: Butter Tarts and Pies are a 5, Scones and Brownies a 2, and Service inside a 0. Consider self-service or bring a book not to mind the wait. Better yet, if possible go to the Saturday market across the street.

Great job opening a brand new business. Baked goods were delicious and nutritious. . Don't forget the eclectic vendors upstairs. Crystal wands, western novels and more. Great service. Could use donuts and open earlier.
